S.S. Arabic Hands Across the Sea postcard

HANDS ACROSS THE SEA
POSTCARDS

MANUFACTURED BY THOMAS STEVENS

This series of postcards has "Hands Across the Sea" (HATS) printed on the card above the silk and the name of a ship printed below the silk.
The HATS silks have various flags, various joined hands and flag poles with different tassle arrangements. The same silk is repeated with different ship's names, and the name of each ship known to be associated with each silk have been listed in this catalogue with the image. The individual ship's name will hence appear in several different places.
Godden acknowledged the existence of the HATS postcards but did not list them specifically.
John High has extensively documented the variations in the HATS silks and this catalogue is based on John's work.

There are however a series of Steven's silk postcards which have the same words "Hands Across the Sea" printed on the card above the silk and the name of a ship printed below the silk, but which have the image of the actual ship woven on the silk, instead of the traditional hands and flags.
As these are more typical of the normal 'Ship' postcards, they are listed there instead, and can be found under 'Transport'.

There is also a third category of cards which have the same arrangement of flags, hands and tassles on the silk, but different words above the silk, and no ships name below.
Very few of these are known, and they have been placed first in the list below.
