The Earl of Beaconsfield was the title granted to Benjamin Disraeli in 1876. This famous British politician was born in London on 21 December 1804, and was Prime Minister in 1868 and from 1874 to 1880. He died on 19 April 1881.

THE LATE EARL OF BEACONSFIELD was first mentioned on label 21+2 and was one of the first two Stevens portrait silks issued. Three different variations were made, [listed on this web site as so88, so92 and this one].

This, a rare small version of the Beaconsfield portrait is placed against a light background, with the woven inscription 'The Late Earl of Beaconsfield' above the portrait. The lables 21+10+2 to 23+27+2 list the normal size portrait at sixpence (6d), with the bracketed notation '(also in smaller size, price 4d each)'. This small version, rarely found, is probably that noted here. It was listed only for a brief period on back-labels.
